Performance improvement initiatives—the introduction of new methods, processes, tools and/or skills—mean change. But often people resist change or have difficulty changing old habits, causing them to revert soon after the training session ends. This session offers you the opportunity to learn from a panel of L&D professionals who use change management principles and tools to help drive performance improvement within their organizations or as consultants. This session will have opportunities for listening, discussing and asking questions of the experts.

Panelists:

dawne Dawne Carlson is Senior DirectorOrganizational Effectiveness for Target, responsible for the Enterprise Organizational Effectiveness teams including Human Resources OE, Target Technology Services OE, Canada OE, OE Operations, Process Improvement and Sigma Operations. Dawne has been with Target for 27 years, and served in roles in Stores HR and Merchandising. She joined the OE senior leadership team in 2007 as the Director of Field OE and moved to her role leading Enterprise OE in 2012.
Steve Steve Nguyen helps some of the world’s top companies be more successful through their implementation of Yammer. He has a passion for emerging technologies, social collaboration, and helping to make people’s lives more productive. Prior to coming to Yammer/Microsoft, Steve was a Technology Research Analyst at Cargill.
Tony Tony Loyd, Vice President, Organization & Team Effectiveness for Buffalo Wild Wings, has extensive experience working public, private and government organizations to direct global initiatives that align learning solutions to corporate goals. Through his innovative approaches, he has enabled his clients to achieve significant improvements in processes, productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction while reducing costs and improving bottom line results. Before joining Buffalo Wild Wings, Tony worked with organizations including Medtronic, Diversey, John Deere, US Department of Energy, AT&T, Alcoa and the State of Colorado.
James Dr. James Bohn is considered a ‘designated hitter’ for repairing broken teams. Dr. Bohn was the Global Director of Change Management for Johnson Controls prior to his retirement in 2013 after 33 years of service. Jim led significant change management projects including IT implementations, mergers and reorganizations. He has served in roles ranging from the shop floor, design, engineering, sales and service. “I consider my early operations experience to be invaluable for understanding change problems.” Jim has taught Organization Development at University of Wisconsin’s LUBAR School of Business, Business Ethics and Strategy at Concordia University and Leadership at Marquette University.

Dec. 5 -“Leading Through Change” Normandale Comm. College

The frontline manager is in an unenviable position when it comes to leading change. Often faced with rallying the troops to accept and embrace change that they themselves might not agree with, there is an art and science to creating a successful change environment. Begin by understanding the transition process and how it affects the people who report to you. Then, learn strategies for supporting your employees while holding them accountable for accepting change. This workshop will give you ample time to apply concepts to your own situation, so bring your issues with you and leave with a strategic action plan!

Nov. 21 -“Developing Your Leadership Style” Normandale Comm. College

Throughout this series, supervisors have learned and practiced tools for setting clear expectations, having difficult conversations, developing strong relationships, and holding people accountable for performance. While everyone potentially has the same tools available to them, every supervisor will still have their own voice and style. This final class in the series will encourage supervisors to define the style that allows them to be the most effective they can be. (Styles Profile included.)

Even the best coaches do not control how employees perform on the job. This course builds skills in the handling of chronic performance problems or serious misconduct. Learn how to document the problem, and explain what the employee must do to address it. Learners are skilled in discussing and imposing formal consequences while adhering to their organization’s disciplinary policies and procedures.
